This page contains various links to sites with information about China.  However, this listing is in no sense complete, as the World Wide Web is the home of  an overwhelming and ever-changing amount of information on China.  The sites that follow will give you a good start in your  search to discover more about the rapidly changing Chinese nation.

This page, while available for general public use, is intended as a supplement to the Reader's Guide to China issued by the State Department's National Foreign Affairs Training Center and to courses on China offered at NFATC.
 

 
 

General Information
 
CATO Institute maintains a site that includes a publications list of policy analysis, foreign policy

briefings, CATO briefing papers, trade policy studies, and the CATO Journal.  This site is searchable so it is

relatively easy to locate the material you desire.
 
 

China contains recent articles about China from the Washington Post and Associated Press. This site also

 maintains  reference links to the CIA World Factbook and U.S. State Department Notes as well as links to

China sites with a wide range of information from official government information to travel recommendations.
 
 

CCPIT: China Council for the Promotion of International Trade
 
 

China: China Education and Research Network is presented in English and Chinese.
 
 

CIA Factbook includes a general overview of geography, transportation, government, people,

as well as military and international issues.

 

China Home Page includes sections on public, scientific, technical, and business, information about

China.
 
 

China On The Internet

 

Chinascape includes news, culture, sports, travel, business, games, health, computers, and regional

information.
 
 

China: Table of Contents includes economic trends and outlook and leading sectors for US exports

and investments.
 
 

China Today presents basic information regarding China's armed forces, art, entertainment, banking,

diplomatic missions, women, children, government services, international trade, business, real estate,

housing, media, and sports.

 
 
China Tour gives useful information about how to prepare for your trip to China. This site discusses

airlines, embassies, Chinese money, exchange rates, maps, weather information, and laws and regulations

regarding  travel in China.

  China Window is a great all encompassing site containing numerous links to sites about China's business,

entertainment, Yellow Pages, television, local cities, and law firms. This site also maintains links to on-line

newspapers and the China Internet News Center.
 
 

China 5K presents a timeline of Chinese history.

 

Chinese Community Forum  is presented by China Hub, Inc.  It contains information about past issues

of importance to understanding China.  Additionally, this site offers guides and links to poetry, fiction, jobs,

and people.  Links for children are also included.
 
 

Chinese Security Homepage includes Chinese military links, security issues, security-related links, and

key newspapers and journals.

 

General information on China the Chinese nation, and women in China.

 

People's Republic of China is a subject guide listing 40-50 topics of interest such as poetry,

food, environmental news, and general information.

 

Reference of cities and provinces in China

 

Resources on China contains 20-25 links to China sites maintained by the library of the City University

of Hong Kong including recent human rights issues, travel, economics, business.
 

 
Tax Law of China includes tax law in China and Hong Kong, and information on

doing business in China.

 

Travel Advisory: China (U.S.  State Department) posts travel warnings and Consular

information sheets.

 
 
US Embassy in China includes political issues, economic issues, commercial affairs, agricultural issues,

visa questions, services to American citizens, and science and technology.

Human Rights In China
 
 

 Amnesty International works to protect human rights worldwide.  This organization publishes annual

reports on the status of human rights in many countries in addition to publishing articles on related topics.

Browse Amnesty's homepage or directly view the 1998 report on China.
 
 

Asia OnLine  reports occurrences throughout Asia, including China.  This site contains articles that are

both current and back issued.
 
 

Derechos Human Rights presents human rights reports, articles, and  additional links to Tibet and

Hong  Kong.  The major component of this site consists of reports by international bodies.
 
 

Human Rights in China (HRIC) is an international NGO that monitors international compliance with

human rights standards.  This site contains information on China's human rights abuses and the democracy

movement.
 
 

Human Rights Watch contains information on global human rights issues, but refers to China quite

frequently.  Human Rights Watch uses this site to post recent news, publications, and campaign information.
 
 

Lawyers Committee for Human Rights focuses on human rights struggles and strives to strengthen

NGOs.  This organization fights to protect and promote fundamental human rights.  This site contains links to

<>information about such issues as "China and Hong Kong: A New Approach to Human Rights."
 
 

The United States Department of State maintains a China homepage complete with briefing records,

factsheets, and other State Department reports.  In addition, the site has news on economics and current

events in China-U.S. relations.
 

 
 The United States House of Representatives homepage allows you to search he the

Congressional record and Committee Reports for information on China and human rights issues.
 
 
 

The United States Senate homepage is searchable.  Entering China as your key word, a search will

return links to Senate records and government documents about China.
 
 

Guangzhou (Canton)
 
 

Clueless in Guangzhou is an excellent site to visit when planning a trip or move to Guangzhou.

This site consist of practical information and current news in and around Guangzhou.  For

example, this page contains a directory for shopping and dining, as well as a listing of Western

bars, coffee shops, and nightclubs.  Travel and consulate information are  provided in addition to

a list of emergency phone numbers.
 

 Taiwan
 

Mainland Affairs Council expresses the position of  Mainland China.  This site contains

information regarding the MAC as well as Mainland policy documents.  Furthermore, cross-strait

negotiations are explored.
 
 

New Taiwan, maintained by a Taiwanese organization in the United States that works for human

rights and democracy in Taiwan, presents the history, present issues, and future concerns of

Taiwan.  In addition, this site contains information about the Taiwan Independence Party (TAIP)

and DDP. A bi-monthly Taiwan Communiqué journal on human rights and political developments

is also accessible from this site.
 
 

 
 

On- Line Newspapers and Journals in China
 

Asia, Inc. includes links to the "Who's Who in Asia" guide, financial news, and a link to the Asia Internet

CHISA is an electronic Chinese Weekly containing information regarding economics,

politics, education, and security. This site is  written in Chinese but can be converted to

English.

 

Fujian Today is delivered in Chinese.

 

Inside China Today contains sections with information pertaining to Tibet, culture,

religion, politics, and government (PRC and ROC Taiwan).

 

Shanghai Daily
